Rental Accommodation Scheme (RAS)
The Rental Accommodation Scheme is a new scheme for people who have being receiving long-term rent supplement (18 months or over) and who are deemed to have a long term housing need by Westmeath Local Authorities.
Landlords
Westmeath County Council will enter into contractual arrangements with accommodation providers, landlords, property owners, estate and letting agents.
Westmeath County Council will assume responsibility for making full monthly payments to landlords for the duration of the contract. The landlord will not have to collect rent or fill vacancies and the Council will rent even if the property is vacant.
Tenants
The Scheme will provide additional, good quality accommodation for people receiving rent supplement and it will help Local Authorities to provide long-term housing for people who need it.
RAS gives tenants of private rented accommodation long-term security while also giving them access to a range of housing supports
