Cllr. Frankie Keena has stated that the proposed Chinese project for Athlone needs to be given space to become a reality.Since the Taoiseach alluded to it on Monday last it seems to have taken wings with people making comments. It has been widely known throughout the town that his initiative has been on the agenda for the last eighteen months or so.I am sure people will understand the amount of work and detail in trying to pull this together whereby it is hoped that up to 2,500 Chinese will come to work in Athlone in developing a wholesale trading centre of Chinese goods for both the domestic and the European markets. In turn it has the potential of creating thousands of Irish jobs both on site and through service provision. Not alone will this project have an impact in creating jobs but it will also put a big requirement demand on housing, schools and other services. There is bound to be huge competition within this country and also on the European stage for this exciting project and I strongly feel that the local promoters should to be given space and time to secure this project for Athlone. If it works out it will put Athlone on the European and Asian map for business people to visit to do their work, he concluded.
