Many new substances have emerged onto the
drug scene in Ireland since the widespread
opening of head shops.
‘Legal Highs’ or ‘Herbal Highs’ are terms used to describe
these substances which are also available on the internet.
What are ‘Legal Highs’?
The substances on sale in these shops or the internet often mimic the
effects of illegal drugs. They include sedatives, stimulants and
hallucinogens. Some are herbal, meaning they come from a plant. Others
are synthetic, meaning they are produced from a variety of chemicals.
