This week Cllr. Frankie Keena has thanked Athlone Town Council on commencing the repairs of footpaths in the Altown / Garrycastle area which should be completed in a matter of days.``I am delighted with this progress because apart from enhancing the area it will most importantly increase the safety for the large number of people who reside in the area and also for those who visit on a daily basis’’, said Cllr. Keena. These paths were in a deplorable state and were a cause of great concern for the safety of the public who use them. Over the last number of years the Council have repaired sections of other paths in this area and this latest work will add to that done previously, he said. Each year they receive a road block grant from the Department for footpaths, road repairs and traffic management throughout the Town.
I am glad that my representations on behalf of the residents of Altown & Garrycastle to receive some of this grant money for footpath repairs has been successful, said Cllr. Keena.
